We've received Palm's invitation to their CES launch last week and so far there are a lot of (official) details about what's coming out, but we are almost certain that Palm will show its NOVA operating system (OS) there. Usually such a new OS is accompanied by new hardware.
Palm itself says that its new product will "bridge the gap" between BlackBerry devices and Apple's iPhone. "The next 10 years is all about the transition from notebook to mobile computing," says Jon Rubinstein, Palm's Executive Chairman.
He is right, phones are going to become increasingly more important. But I'm not sure that I see what the gap is between Blackberry and Apple. Sure, Blackberry's phones are business-oriented and Apple is supposedly oriented towards a more personal market, but in reality the iPhone integrates very well in an Exchange environment and many young people have Blackberry devices.
