Panamatic Makes Panoramic Shots a Snap

Panamatic Makes Panoramic Shots a Snap

Shooting panoramic photos can be pretty fun, considering how it adds a whole new dimension to the viewer especially when you are faced with a scenic view. However, getting the right shots can get pretty tricky, which is where the Panamatic comes in handy. Specially designed to mount on any standard tripod, the Panamatic hopes to make sure that all photos snapped are properly lined up with the next to make it easier to stitch together on a computer later on. A full rotation will result in a dozen photos that make it a snap to stitch, and the Panamatic can also be mounted vertically to shoot really, really tall objects such as skyscrapers. Definitely a $24.95 must buy for those who have a strong interest in photography.

AT&T Has a Heart for the Disabled

AT&T Has a Heart for the Disabled

Good to see companies aren't all money-faced, as AT&T has shown that it still possesses some remnant of humanity by offering a text plan that caters to subscribers who are deaf or suffer from a hearing/speech disability.

Today, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) announced a new Text Accessibility Plan (TAP) for iPhone, designed to give iPhone customers with disabilities the choice of unlimited text messaging, Web browsing and easy access to e-mail for $40 a month.

Both new and current eligible iPhone users with disabilities will be able to sign up for this plan. I wonder how much goodwill can be generated from this exercise, and when will AT&T's rivals follow suit?

Smallest Mac an OQO?

Smallest Mac an OQO?

Now I know this doesn't really make sense at all - how can the smallest Mac in the world be an OQO at the same time? Well, apparently the "Mac" in question here is actually an OQO that has been specially hacked to run Mac OS X Leopard. Boot up time stands at two and a half minutes, and everything about the OQO works fine ranging from WiFi connectivity to audio, power management and Bluetooth support. Unfortunately, WWAN has not yet been cracked yet but that is another challenge for another day. The OQO's a wee bit too small for any heavy computing work, so this exercise is but a show-off parade that has met some success.

Samsung Introduces 2 Small Color Laser Printers

Samsung Introduces 2 Small Color Laser Printers

Samsung Korea is proud to lay claim to a couple of the smallest color laser printers built to date, comprising of the CLP-315K and the CLX-3175FNK. The former features a rather quiet 45dB noise level, 2,400 x 600 dpi resolution, 32MB of internal memory, 16 pages per minutes (Black) and 4 pages per minutes (Color). As for the CLX-3175FNK, this all-in-one laser color printer boasts an integrated color scanner and a much smaller body (up to 40% the size of its predecessor, the CLX-3160). You can scan documents directly onto a plugged-in USB flash drive without the need for a PC with this model. Pretty neat, huh?

New Nokia Concepts Wow

New Nokia Concepts Wow

Nokia showed off several concept handsets at its first ever "Design Event" in Central London at their new Studio, with the "People First" concept being more on the software side, showing a list of people you communicate with based on your last interaction with said person. Sounds like a more organized call log than anything else to me, so it makes me wonder why would something like that take 3 to 5 years to be released? Up next is the "Zero Waste Charger" attempts to reduce power consumption with methods such as a built-in charger timer that activates the device only when it needs juice, but otherwise won't be a power vampire. As for the "Wears in, not out" concept, this does take some brain cells to decipher as the press release mentioned :-

"As more services become available on our mobile devices this concept explores how people could potentially upgrade their devices digitally rather than physically in the future, giving people an additional choice on how they use and update their mobile phones."

RC-12 Wireless Mini Cam

RC-12 Wireless Mini Cam

The RC-12 Wireless Mini Cam from RF System Lab is not only tiny and has a maximum working range of up to 30 meters, it can even shoot images underwater with the help of a waterproof case, although I wouldn't think that there would be anyone performing underwater trysts anytime which makes for newsworthy material. After all, if you're going to explore underwater photography, why not settle for a standard point-and-shoot with a waterproof case? This will be much better suited for on-land use, using a 0.25" CMOS chip to snap full color images in VGA quality. The RC-12 Wireless Mini Cam retails for $269 each.

Overall Health Balance Scale

Overall Health Balance Scale

The Overall Health Balance Scale from National Electric is one interesting device that has been released to go up against the metabolic syndrome. It is able to take note of your weight, BMI, subcutaneous fat ratio, organ fat level, muscle level, and basal metabolic rate. Not only that, it also ranks you in each category on a five point scale and gives you an overall health rating based on your current age. The screen is a breeze to read no matter what your age is, and can be brought up to eye level while standing assuming your belly takes ownership of the largest diameter in your body. I think women will probably be more obsessed with the Overall Health Balance Scale's results, as us men will probably resort to Wii Fit as a remedy.

Mac Owners get Razer Death Adder

Mac Owners get Razer Death Adder

The Razer Death Adder is one gaming mouse that is good to look at, and functions pretty well, too. Mac owners have long been left out of the gaming hardware scene, since hardly any good hardcore games appear on that platform, but Razer has been kind enough to release a Mac version of the Razer Death Adder that brings 1800dpi and 1ms response time to the table. No matter how it is named, the Mighty Mouse will whimper in a fragfest, which is why this timely introduction is extremely welcome. The Mac version of the Razer Death Adder will hit retail stores this May 20th for $60.

USB Cleaner Mouse

USB Cleaner Mouse

Now the USB Cleaner Mouse is a rather nifty idea - after all, not only does it allow you to navigate through the Windows environment with greater ease compared to using keyboard shortcuts, it even comes with a built-in vacuum cleaner within which sucks up dirt and dust from your desk at the touch of a button. I wouldn't leave the vacuum on while using the mouse as a pointer though, since it will definitely cause enough ruckus to irritate your cubicle neighbors. Well, at $19 a pop, this isn't such a bad device to try out just for kicks, but it isn't recommended if you're into precision movement (especially for gamers).

iPhone Solar Star Edition from Goldstriker

iPhone Solar Star Edition from Goldstriker

Goldstriker definitely knows how to beautify the iPhone as well as a plethora of other gadgets, and the Solar Star edition is their latest attempt. Featured on both the front bezel and Apple's rear logo are 24 carat gold plating, while the rest of the case has the luxurious Balloon White paint found on a Lamborghini Gallardo. This white-and-gold color scheme is pleasant to the eye and looks good to the touch, and comes with updated firmware 1.1.4 as well as is unlocked for worldwide GSM use. You get 16GB of flash memory inside, but the £749.95 ($1,477) price tag will definitely put most people off. I'd rather save that dough for a 3G iPhone, and Apple's original design isn't bad to begin with but this over-blinged version isn't suitable in this day and age where consumers' pockets are being squeezed even for the basic necessities in life.

Sony SRSZX1 2.0 Speaker System

Sony SRSZX1 2.0 Speaker System

Sony's SRSZX1 2.0 Speaker System targets the average desktop computer that does not need tubthumping bass, but claims to entertain people with "an enriched sound range and fuller bass sound reproduction". Meant for casual use where PC gaming, audio and DVD playback are concerned. It comes in an aluminum finish and is accompanied by a compact wireless remote controller. Technological advances include Mobius Duct technology which 'minimizes wind noise', Turbo Shift technology for extended bass range and a Sigma-Type magnetic circuit for upgraded sound reproduction. There is no word on pricing, but it shouldn't be too expensive.
