ATTIGO TT for Budding DJs

ATTIGO TT for Budding DJs

Aspiring DJs will definitely find the ATTIGO TT Touch Screen Table that enables one to loop, sample and scratch at will. Of course, all this can be accomplished without the need for vinyls, as the large touch screen displays are all that is needed. Sounds like the future of DJing has arrived, or has it? Hopefully current touch screen technology is sensitive enough to respond to fast fingered DJs, and the inclusion of tactile feedback would be pretty important in my book as DJs naturally prefer to feel the grooves of their vinyls during mixing.

Haptic Creature looks like Mutant Bunny

Haptic Creature looks like Mutant Bunny

Roboticist Steve Yohanan has developed the Haptic Creature that looks more like a bunny missing several important facial features to me, and this robot relies on touch feedback as it's only means of communicating. Boasting pressure sensors all around, this furry, eyeless rabbit robot will be able to sense how it is touched or stroked, responding appropriately by making breathing-like motions, ear wiggles or purring vibrations. I wonder how will it react to the pain of a power drill - will it's ears just start twirling crazily until they pop off?

XYZ Computer Desk

XYZ Computer Desk

Now this is definitely the most stunning all-in-one computer I have ever laid my eyes upon, but unfortunately it is but a concept device at this point in time. The XYZ Computer Desk features a computer bundled into a piece of furniture which definitely goes one up on other all-in-one PCs that stop at just the LCD monitor. The entire range of components and cable management are stored within the desk itself, and you can lift open its lid whenever an upgrade is due. As for the optical drive, USB ports and relevant Hot Keys, those are all located on the desk's side. I wonder whether this is properly insulated as computer parts tend to heat up pretty easily - if it is, then how efficient is the cooling system?

ProteinDS for the DS

Don't you just love homebrew software? Music buffs as well as aspiring DJs will definitely fall in love with ProteinDS - a hip-hop scratching software for Nintendo's wildly successful DS platform. Of course, just like any other musical tool (digital or otherwise), it will take a serviceable sense of rhythm to operate, which pretty much rules me out. Sounds like great fun (no pun intended) to play with.

Panasonic steals the headlines yet again with a new Blu-ray Disc player-specific single-chip signal processing LSI, a first in the world. Steampunk USB Flash Drive

Steampunk USB Flash Drive

Fancy bringing a piece of steampunk technology around with you? Well, this is now possible assuming you have the artistic ability to conjure something like what you see above. It really makes me wonder how we can settle for plain looking USB flash drives after laying eyes on such a beauty. For folks who know Russian, head on to the Modding.ru forums to get the nitty gritty on how this was created from scratch.

FCC Approves Nokia E66

FCC Approves Nokia E66

The FCC has finally given the nod to the Nokia E66, a device that is widely tipped to succeed the Nokia E65. There will be two variants available though, where one of them will rely on Europe's 2100MHz 3G band while the other will support 850/1900MHz bands for domestic networks. There is no further information on the E66 itself, but rumors have it that it will be equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera and 128MB of internal memory. If the Nokia E65 is anything to go by, then the E66 ought to continue in the slider lineage, bringing Wi-Fi connectivity and a microSD memory card slot with it along as well. No idea on when this will be commercially released though.

Folding Laptop on eBay

Folding Laptop on eBay

While laptops are meant to be portable, those 19.5" monsters will definitely make it a chore to lug around - but not if you can help it with this folding laptop. A quick search on eBay unearthed this gem of a Xentex-brand prototype laptop that features a hinge right down the middle, enabling it to be folded right in half. This won't change its weight in any way, while the laptop ends up twice as thick, but at least it makes it all the more manageable to tote around. A hinge splits the laptop's display into a couple of 13.3" panels, and each of them can be rotated independently, allowing two people to watch the display from either side of the table although only one person will be able to have full control of the keyboard. It comes with a built-in floppy drive, but lacks an optical drive. Other specifications include an 850MHz Athlon processor and over 128MB of RAM. It is currently going for $100, making it a great conversation starter if you plan on turning your home into a tech museum.

Thermaltake DuOrb AX VGA Cooler

Thermaltake DuOrb AX VGA Cooler

Graphic cards have gotten more and more complex in recent years, and these tend to let out a whole lot of heat as well. Thermaltake has a solution to that problem with its DuOrb AX VGA cooler that brings a couple of 80mm fans to fight the heat, boasting a maximum airflow of of 23.8 CFM at 2500 RPM when connected to an aluminum heatsink with a copper base and a couple of 6mm heatpipes. There is no word on pricing, but it ought to arrive in store shelves within two weeks' time. The DuOrb AX VGA cooler is compatible with the following video cards :-

  • NVIDIA 8600 GTS/GT

Sony Walkman E020 Head for the US

Sony Walkman E020 Head for the US

Sony's Walkman E020 series will finally arrive in the US, and hopefully it will retain the same pricing levels as found in the recent Asian launch with the 1GB and 2GB models retailing for $69 and $79, respectively. One thing different about the E020 is its signature swappable faceplate that make life more colorful, allowing you to suit the color to your current mood. These faceplates won't come cheap though at $12 a pop - since when did plastic ever get so expensive, anyway? The US model is rumored to do away with Sony's Windows-only SonicStage software in favor of a drag-and-drop solution, and I second that decision wholeheartedly. The E020 lineup will ship with a built-in three-line color LCD with album art support and premium earbuds.

USB Warmer/Chiller 4-Port Hub

USB Warmer/Chiller 4-Port Hub

Talk about a multi-purpose USB hub - this model not only offers you connectivity options for another four USB 2.0 devices, it also features a warmer/chiller plate that helps keep your favorite beverage hot/cold no matter what the temperature is like in the room. Definitely an office-worthy gift for a new (or leaving) colleague, and the $25 price tag certainly makes it all the more appealing. If dad happens to work from home all the time, then he would certainly do well to own one of these too.

Cybernetic Implants on the Way

Cybernetic Implants on the Way

I don't know about you, but if you think it is appealing to have a cybernetic arm implant, would you voluntarily have one installed? That means sawing off a perfectly good limb, my friends, and not having some Sith Lord slice it away (cleanly) with a lightsaber. I certainly would not, although it makes me smug knowing that my cybernetic arm is way stronger than any human, and I won't be making any more mistakes typing on a computer keyboard while winning all arm wrestling competitions from now onwards. Cybernetic implants are on their way though, but it won't be mainstream for a long time to come yet. io9 is dabbling in this future dark art, so head on over for further information.
