Podera Deskscape Reader

Podera Deskscape Reader

Check out the Podera Deskscape Reader which adds a wee bit of finesse to your working area, as it takes the opposite route of design by occupying too much space than it should. Functionally speaking, it doesn't amount up to much either, being capable of reading just Memory Sticks, MMC and SD cards. Available in grey, green, orange, yellow and blue colors, the Podera Deskscape Reader retails for $30.77. At that price you can probably get a 55-in-1 memory card reader, although it won't have the same level of aesthetic value with the Podera Deskscape Reader.

Bath-O-Matic A Joy To Use

Bath-O-Matic A Joy To Use

Looks like taking a bath is no longer a simple affair these days, not when you have home improvement ideas like the Bath-O-Matic. This device from Unique Automation is a digital bath filler that lowers the motorized plug, fills up the bathtub to a stored temperature of your liking at the correct depth, with the option to spice up the situation by adding some bubble bath and fragrances into the water. The Bath-O-Matic is hooked up to AMX and Crestron systems via RS-232 or TCP/IP, and comes with a touch screen interface for you to key in all the necessary details before you strip down for the day. The $8,000 asking price will probably cause most people to turn away, leaving this to be a plaything of the rich.

Hitachi W61H Gets E-Ink Display

Hitachi W61H Gets E-Ink Display

Now this is definitely one cell phone that all customization lovers would love to grab a hold of. The Hitachi W61H clamshell handset that will be made available this spring from KDDI features a black and white 2.7" e-ink display known as "Silhouette screen" on the front, featuring 95 pre-installed graphic patterns where the user will be able to select to make it look as though you have a different color at all times. Those who are far-sighted ought to look into a viable business that offers pattern and picture downloading for such phones in the future. I'm just waiting for a colored display version to appear once they have sorted the battery issues out - black and white is a start, but color makes a whole world of difference.

Moldable Mouse Design Concept

Moldable Mouse Design Concept

Now this is definitely one left-hander-friendly mouse - the Moldable Mouse concept. This concept by Lite-On sees the mouse being made out of lightweight modeling clay, complete with a flexible polyurethane and nylon fabric cover which allows one to mold it into whatever shape that your hand loves. I guess this means the mouse can double up as a stress ball as well. Heck, even the radio-frequency controlled stick-on mouse buttons and touch-sensitive scroll pad can be placed in different positions according to your liking. Hopefully should it ever make it to production lines, the Moldable Mouse will come in more than just one color.

DEMO 08 - At Your Service Session

Support.com
Support.com is launching PC HealthCheck a free internet based service that check users’ PC on demand. Read more in my article

SupportSpace
I visited the SupportSpace booth yesterday and I saw a demo of the service. I like it a lot. It could be a great replacement of traditional phone-based Tech Support services. Directly on the home page, users can see the experts’ profiles, rates and ranking. Once the user has selected an expert to help to troubleshoot her/his computer, a chat session is engaged with her/him. Using a Remote Desktop like software with no client download, the expert conduct the maintenance task ordered.

Aternity
Aternity, an Intel Capital portfolio company, launches its platform that monitors desktop performance, application usage/usability, human productivity, and end-to-end performance of every application transaction. Any problems is identified and the computer user is notified.

Symantec
I already published about the Symantec Family Safety Initiative that helps parents with their children online safety. I like the fact that this solution requires the kids collaboration to work properly, and it does not invade their privacy too much: any content from their favorite social networking website site as private is not shown to the parents. No 120GB PlayStation 3, According to Sony Europe

No 120GB PlayStation 3, According to Sony Europe

A recent rumor about a possible 120GB Playstation3 (PS3) was generating some buzz on the web, but Sony has responded officially to say that no such thing is in the works… at least in the UK.

"We do not currently have any plans to release a 120GB PlayStation 3 in the UK" (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, SCEE)

The working is a little weird and I’m sure that someone will ask: “What about outside the U.K?”

EcoButton to Save the Planet by Shutting Down your PC

EcoButton to Save the Planet by Shutting Down your PC

This Eco Button connects via USB and basically puts your PC into sleep mode, saving precious Watts. It will also wake the PC up, when it’s time to work again. The interesting thing is that the bundled software will record the carbon units saved. At ubergizmo, we think that “if we can measure it, we will improve it” (if we care).

There’s no question that “Green” has become a marketing gimmick, even if there’s a real need to be greener. I wonder how many carbon units it takes to build the button and how polluting it will be once in the trash. wouldn’t you prefer a better designed one? $18 at eco button

Dell XPS M1730 To Get SLI Graphics

Dell XPS M1730 To Get SLI Graphics

If you are the type who plans to take your gaming on the road, then Dell will have yet another option for you soon - its line of XPS M1730 gaming notebooks will soon ship with an option for NVIDIA's 8800M GTX dual SLI graphics for the power gamer. The XPS M1730 will still retain its 17" display, Core 2 Duo processors and dual drive configurations, although if you plan to run an SLI setup you'd best be near a power outlet at all times. Dell will also make this option available on its custom-themed World of Warcraft Edition. Prices start from $700 for this new notebook, and Dell has not forgotten about its older customers who can opt for the graphics upgrade program. Pricing details for the latter has yet to be announced.

Wiimote Loses Pale Face

Wiimote Loses Pale Face

The traditionally white Wiimote can now be accompanied by colored brethren, thanks to the efforts of Snakebyte who decided there are more than enough white Wiimotes in the market. Looking pretty identical to the real thing, you get a dose of different colors with a slightly more stylized button design. Initial models that roll out will come in black or bright purple, although I would like to see green, red and yellow join the fray. How about a retro NES color edition? Pokemon and Animal Crossing editions? These will retail for approximately $59 a pop when they're released early next month, which is pretty steep since you can already get a game with that kinda dough.

Smart Carpet Assists The Fallen

Smart Carpet Assists The Fallen

We all know how prone the elderly are when it comes to accidental falls, and sometimes us kids worry as our aged parents are left all alone at home. Researchers at the University of Missouri claim that they have developed a 'smart carpet' capable of electronically monitoring a senior's location and sending out an alert in case of a fall. This new sensor can be printed on thin, flexible sheets using inexpensive organic ink, so cheapskates have no more excuse of not getting this for their parents. It is said that a commercial version could roll out in a couple of years' down the road. This is definitely better than other solutions on the market since the individual in question does not have to be conscious to summon any help.
