The Japanese are big on robots, make no mistake about it, and the Mamoru robot that was created to care for the elderly despite looking rather creepy. He won't be able to prop up those who fall down by accident, but is more of a moving memory bank, helping the elderly or disabled remember where they left items like a remote control or even their mug of tea. In addition, the Mamoru robot dishes out polite reminders on when to take one's medicine. Mamoru gets around thanks to its wide-angle camera to study the room, where its image recognition software will inform it of where individual objects are. Hopefully that they won't startle any elderly to meet the Grim Reaper sooner rather than later, judging by their diminutive size.
