Footballs With Sensors Could Spell End Of Referees

Footballs With Sensors Could Spell End Of Referees

Certainly professor Dr. Priya Narasimhan at Carnegie Mellon University has no malicious intent when she developed sensor-equipped footballs and gloves with her students, but that invention could very well put referees out of a job - something not welcome at this time of economic uncertainty. These improvements to the sport's equipment is geared toward telling in real-time whether the ball bounced off the ground before it was caught, or whether a player had possession of a ball whilst being piled upon after a fumble. She's having difficulty trying to persuade a college or professional team to further help her in the experiment, and this could be due to the fact that fans, teams and coaches would love the ref to be the fall guy when things turn sour.
