Toshina is all set to ship its 128GB SSD, where the 1.8" drive will utilize the same multi-level cell (MLC) process as the flash memory used in portable music players, although this time they will use a new controller that will see a performance boost compared to cheaper drives. With a read and write speed of 100MB/s and 40MB/s respectively, these new SSDs will be faster than the majority of 2.5" notebook hard drives, although the latter will fare better when it comes to moving huge chunks of data. There is no word on pricing as at press time, although Toshiba expects their offerings to be easier on the wallet than Samsung's.
