Johnson Controls have already patented their Translucent LCD dashboard, which brings new hope that vehicles in the future will boast this far-out technology over what we're currently getting. Light from your windscreen will act as its backlight (artificially at night, to boot) as the unit is mounted right above the dashboard, projecting the tachometer, speedometer, odometer, and others essential parameters. Sounds a bit like the HUD you find on the BMW 5 Series.
