Ok so this backpack doesn't run on pixie dust and some incantations, but the way it generates power by itself surely warrants the word 'magic' in its title. Each strap is made using a special piezoelectric material called polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) that generates electrical charges whenever stress is applied, which means the weight of your backpack (and its contents) actually translates to an advantage. Researchers discovered that when you lug around a 100-pound pack and walk at 2-3 mph you will be able to generate 45.6 mW of power. That's more than enough juice to power an iPod or even a a head-mounted flashlight. Unfortunately, a 100-pound pack is usually the figure that soldiers carry, and not meant for untrained, ordinary citizens like you and I.
