It has been a while since Dash showed their first demo and recently we got an exclusive hands-on with their most recent hardware design. Today, Dash Express fans can pre-order the unit for $599.99 on dash.net. The data plan subscription costs $10/mo for a 2-years subscription, $11/mo for a 1-year plan or $13/mo for month-to-month billing. [press release]

If you’re not familiar with Dash (the company) and Dash Express (the product), Dash Express is a connected GPS that uses a cellular network to send and receive data. The unit receives pre-planned routes, point of interest lists, real-time traffic conditions as well as projected traffic conditions based on historical data. Users can plan trips and browse for data from their computers – all this information will be sent wirelessly and instantly to the device.

When on the road, each unit sends (anonymous) data back, like its current location and speed so that Dash’s servers and serve as a unique sensor network that no other company has. While traffic is usually known only for highways and main roads equipped with camera and sensors, Dash gathers even more data from its network of users, including smaller roads. Dash has a very unique solution and we wish them good luck with this arrival on the market.
