More and more netbook manufacturers are jumping onto the bandwagon that involves integrated 3G connectivity, with HP being the latest "victim". The built-in model will function on AT&T or Verizon’s Wireless broadband networks, but will retail for $199 which is much more expensive compared to the $125 AT&T broadband modem that Dell uses for its Inspiron Mini 9. It makes even less sense on HP's part considering AT&T will reimburse you $120 of the purchase price when you sign up for a service plan. So far, there is no word on whether AT&T or Verizon Wireless will be subsidizing the cost of the modem. The HP Mini 1000 comes with a base price of $399, and that will touch at least $650 if you want it to come with a 3G modem.
