Apple intends to continue choosing what application should be featured on its store, and for "good" reason: the company wants to continue having the tight control over the user experience that that gives it an edge against every other company out there.
One might think that this would push developers to Android, but what if Apple was able to retain the "best" developers, while the others were pushed to Android? All the sudden, it's not such a good deal for Google's platform. It happened in the PS2 versus Xbox war (Xbox was somewhat easier to code for)...
