Nvidia launches Tegra Processor

You've heard of NVIDIA's APX wonder-chip, right? NVIDIA has just introduced a new line of mobile chips called Tegra 600 and Tegra APX. The Tegra has been dubbed by Nvidia to be "the world’s first computer on a chip for mobile visual computers", integrating a processor, GPU, system memory and more, onto a single chip. NVIDIA says that it is approximately 10x more efficient than the competition, but the point is that Tegra has the potential to have the best performance-per-watt in its category, especially when running multimedia applications. It will be interesting to see how Nvidia's Tegra fare against Intel's Atom processor in independent benchmarks, but thanks to its dedicated video hardware, Tegra should outperform Atom in "image processing" a fundamental building block of multimedia apps. NVIDIA is counting on its graphics expertise to gain an edge on Intel in the mobile space, and this could work... NVIDIA Tegra page
