With energy costs spiralling upwards no matter which country we're in, it makes perfect sense to find out how one can reduce the cost of energy consumption. Some Japanese high-tech companies have decided to learn from the past, where 19th-century lighting techniques are used to illuminate the interior of buildings so that they no longer need to rely so much on internal electric lighting. Both Ishikawa Optics & Arts and Inosyo have come up with a new skylight system that funnels natural light from a glass dome on the roof through mirrored tubes and into any room, making its ceiling fittings as effective as fluorescent lights. Installing such a system won't be cheap though, as a 10 square meter room will set you back by $4,800.
