Solar company Konarka has ambitious plans to develop printable solar cells in the form of rolls of plastic which are capable of converting light into electricity, making it possible to have flashing apparel and wireless sensors on all manner of items without worrying about those running out of juice. What I'm worried about are the potential fire hazards - after all, no manufacturing process can guarantee a 100% passing rate. Still, Konarka's effort is commendable, and it would be cool to have my cell phone, DS Lite and iPod charging all by themselves during the day, doing away with chargers that tend to clog up landfills once they're beyond their usefulness.
