Microfiber Fabric That Generates Electricity

Microfiber Fabric That Generates Electricity

Researchers of the Georgia Institute of Technology have developed a fabric that might generate enough electricity to power an mp3 player.

"When a nanowire bends it has an electric effect," Wang said in a telephone interview. "What the fabric does is it translates the mechanical movement of your body into electricity."

Many technical problems will have to be overcome before this can be productized, but this team has basically demonstrated the base mechanism to generate usable electricity from a fabric.
