Technical update: Digital Mobile Microscope

[CES 2008] The Digital Mobile Microscope (FUN-300) that you see here from Vitiny is definitely interesting amidst the plethora of cloned iPods found in the International Gateway section of the CES. Since there is a ton of digital cameras around, why not digital microscopes? The FUN-300 comes with a 1.8" 65k color TFT LCD display that is handy especially when used in split screen mode. You can capture an image of a certain part and then freeze it, comparing that to a live image elsewhere. Sounds like this will do great at biology labs everywhere. Powered by a trio of AAA batteries (or USB, depending on what floats your boat), the FUN-300 will probably hit the US market soon for $199 or thereabouts. There is a 2-megapixel version in the works, but that won't be available until the middle of 2009.
