Bug Labs is currently working on a modular, open source hardware/software system that resembles a set of electronic Legos. According to Bu Labs, this device enables developers to build "anything" using "Bug," which comprises of an ARM11-powered base and different modular add-ons. The initial BugBase processor module is powered by an ARM1136JF-S CPU and 128MB RAM, featuring built-in WiFi, a rechargeable battery, USB, Ethernet, and a mini LCD with button controls, all packed into a body that measures 5" x 2.5" x 0.6" while weighing 0.26 pounds. You can connect up to four BugModules with each BugBase. The end of this year will see Bug Labs ship a color LCD display, a motion detector/accelerometer, a digital camera/videocam, and a GPS locator. Other modules like the keyboard, touchscreen, and a speaker system will ship in Q1 2008. Pricing details are currently unavailable.
