SplashTop instant-on mini operating system

Funny, we’ve been talking about the need of having an instant-on computing experience and over the week-end, I get a link about SplashTop, a company that has a mini-OS that enables web browsing based on Firefox and Skype. Users can choose to use this mini operating system upon powering their PC up. If no choice is made, Windows will boot normally.

It’s a great idea because it lets you check you web-based email and browse the web without having to wait for a long boot sequence. Also you can turn your computer on and off to save battery life. According to the official site, this software will be embedded into ASUS’s P5E3 WiFi motherboard, but I’m sure that other manufacturer will license it as well.
