OmniVision Technologies has just launched the third generation OV2650 2-megapixel CameraChip sensor that ups the ante for cellphone cameras, being small enough to upgrade current 1.3-megapixel and VGA camera phone designs. Advanced features include anti-shake technology, high dynamic range, a high-speed mobile industry processor interface (MIPI), and a high-end ISP to deliver DSC-like performance. Expect volume production of the OV2650 to begin sometime in Q1 next year. Looks like your Carl-Zeiss equipped Nokia would be pretty much obsolete by then with the introduction of this new camera chip sensor. What are some of the other devices that you would like to see include digital camera functionality?
