I know that England isn't exactly the sunniest place on earth, but that doesn't stop the Mendip District of Somerset in southwest England to feature new solar-powered parking meters. These new eco-friendly meters will be part of a £170,000 investment courtesy of the local council, a knee-jerk reaction after vociferous public demand for more user-friendly machines. If history is anything to go by, the local council will probably be plagued by problems concerning gloomy weather which Nottingham experienced back in 2001 when such parking meters were first installed.
