DVD-RW media is old hat by now, or is it? JVC begs to differ by releasing what could be the first single-sided, dual-layer rewritable DVD media in the world. This new disc enables users to store data via a dual-layer DVD burner while allowing them to erase and rewrite data on-the-fly. This new single-sided disc can surprisingly store up to 8.5GB of data - nearly double the amount of regular single-sided DVD media. Since these discs can be rewritten at any time, it would be the more environmentally friendly choice. I just wonder how long the data will be able to remain there before disc rot sets in. Always have a backup in an online server somewhere, I say. Pricing and availability details are currently unknown.
